Damn Nature, You Scary!

Two of my favorite categories on Pinterest are Science & Nature, and Outdoors. This was probably somewhat obvious after the Fungi board a few weeks ago. Naturally, I was thrilled when Emily sent me a link to this stunning nature board yesterday. Unlike the fungi macros, these are mostly full scenes that vary between serene to frightening. Canadian pinner Mary has other gorgeous boards that range from Nostaliga to Clubs. Check her out!
But let’s get back to Nature. Click the image for the original pin.

One Time Only: Wedding Wednesday

Alright folks, I’m going to succumb to one Pinterest cliche today. I swear it’s for a good reason. Pinner Dishajoyti has a beautiful wedding board with a little twist. Who doesn’t appreciate a wedding when it comes from another culture’s traditions? It can’t just be me. There are elephants, for Pete’s sake!
Welcome to Bengali Weddings. Click the image for the original pin.
Now imagine all of that happening over a few days! Bengali weddings sound like a lot of fun.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: The best part of Pinterest is using it for your own purposes. The first time I brought itup was about political boards. Today is a heck of a lot sillier.
Without further ado, I give you Couches of Craigslist. Click the image for the original pin.
I’ll be needing a scalding hot shower as soon as I’m done laughing. The best part is that this is the only thing Dave currently pins!

For today’s board we’re hoping a continent away to South America. Rodnei is a pinner from Brazil that I found through the Cars & Motorcycles category. The cars, trains, and planes he pins are gorgeous, and a fun mix of both new and old technology. The classic car board has over 2,000 pins alone. Most are even labeled so that folks like me can learn a thing or two. It’s retro fan heaven.
It’s worth looking at his non-automotive boards as well. They range from topics like Science & Nature, and History, to regional boards like Venesuela National Park Angel-Fall, and Brazil’s Places. The Carnival board is a lot of fun too, though common sense should tell you not to look at it during office hours.
But more about this classic car board. Welcome to Old Times. Click the image for the original pin.
I could go on, but I’ve got to stop now! Seriously, go browse this board.
Step Into My Office, Baby

This week I’m going to try something a little different: none of the pinners featured this week will be from the United States. Welcome to International Pinners Week!
Today I’m feeling a bit bummed about my beige cubicle, and I’ve been remedying this by browsing through Shiraki‘s boards. He’s based in Tokyo and works for a company called Officemill. (I can’t read their website myself, but feel free to take a crack at it you know Japanese.) A true office fanatic, Shiraki has many boards that feature specific offices of companies like Google and Pixar, and one board full of retail spaces.
The best board to start with is the catch-all Office Design. There’s nothing beige about it! Click the image for the original pin.

If you haven’t heard yet, the Pinterest team heard the complaints about their Terms of Service loud and clear. A highlight of their highlights:
Our original Terms stated that by posting content to Pinterest you grant Pinterest the right for us to sell your content. Selling content was never our intention and we removed this from our updated Terms.
It’s a good start. Read more about the changes they’re making over on their official blog. Now I’m just waiting for a NSFW function.
On that note, today’s board is a little bit sexy and a whole lot sweet. With 1,800 followers (& counting!), it’s certainly well loved. There is good reason. This photography board is a beautiful exploration of facial expression and body language. The images run the gamut from sensual to wholesome, from celebrity to family. Unsurprisingly, curator Becky Earl is a photographer herself. You can find her work at BeckyEarlArt.com.

Waking Up From Vegas

Sorry for running away for a few days! I was off on my first ever trip to Las Vegas. I have never felt more guilty for wanting to sit down to blog. Really I felt guilty sitting at all. I tried to see everything. That city is a fascinating mix of high and low brow culture. There are overpriced Corona street vendors less than a block away from fancy restaurants. Everyone is spending money and time in the ways that feel rich to them, and it is absolutely fascinating.
What do people on Pinterest consider luxe? I decided the best way to find out was to search for “Decadent”. As expected, it turned up a lot of desserts, butter, and cheese. There was also a surprising mix of over-the-top and understated images. It felt pretty Vegas to me!
Search Word: Decadent. Click the image for the original pin.

"Dark chocolate crepe cake. This is a decadent dessert at one of my favorite Italian restaurants. While savoring a big forkful recently, I said I couldn't imagine what a pain in the keister it'd be to make this thing! But now that I've stumbled on a recipe, I might have to give it a go..."
